Wooden Church of the Annunciation – Rediu

Visitable

Having a long history in the land of Neamț, the "Annunciation" church in Poloboc was built in 1728 for the believers from the surrounding area.

Of course, many of these churches were built of wood, a material that was abundant, as oak forests covered a much larger area at the time. Supported by the rich families of the area, the people of the village made the construction of the church possible.

It stands out for its imposing shape, wide nave, but also for its high and voluminous vaults. It preserves one of the most valuable pediments found in the wooden churches of Neamţ County. Painted in neo-Byzantine style, with remarkable expressiveness, specialists consider it the most precious "jewel" of the place of worship.

The church is a real gem, and we invite you to visit it!

Architectural features

The place of prayer is built entirely of wood, and the foundations and elevations are made of rough stone masonry. The main element of the church's architecture is the wooden beams, carved and joined in traditional Moldavian style.

The religious building has a single spire located above the porch, thus distinguishing itself from other wooden churches that have several spires, not just one.

The flared eaves that follow the contour of the walls are also noteworthy, being another defining element for Moldavian architecture.

Outstanding personalities

The Krupenscki family had a defining role in the development of this area, including the present church, which was founded by Alecu Krupenscki, also known as Alecu Poloboc.

A member of the Krupenski family was mentioned for the first time in the princely charters of the 17th century, as well as in the description of Moldavia, written by Dimitrie Cantemir. The author mentioned the Krupenski family as being part of the 75 influential families in the country, which owned large areas of land in Bessarabia and the old kingdom.
