About the Fortified Church of Bărcut:
The church in Bărcut, located in the upper part of the Hârtibaciului Valley, may appear rather unremarkable at first glance. It is a relatively new hall church built in 1846 on the site of an older church that had a slightly sharper roof, as seen from the base of the roof on the east side of the tower. The baroque altar from 1766-1767 was transferred to the new church along with the pulpit from 1792. In 1866, the old organ was replaced with a new one built by Samuel Binder from Sighișoara.

The solid tower, standing 36 meters tall, is impressive with walls 3 meters thick at the lower levels. Access to the tower is via a narrow staircase embedded in the wall, which allows the tower to be defended by a single person. Legend has it that giants helped build the tower, and once the work was completed, the locals threw them into the deep well inside the church. Visit us to see the massive tower that inspired the legend.
In the buildings surrounding the church – the former German school and an adjacent house – we offer hostel-style accommodation. The Children's Museum is located in a wing of the former German school. The parish house on the hill is also set up for overnight stays, and the spacious cultural hall can accommodate up to 200 people.
