Caroling, brought back home, to the heart of Maramureș traditions, as part of the second edition of the event “Christmas in the Village on the Hill”

The Maramureș County Council, together with the Baia Mare City Hall, announces the launch of the second edition of the event “Christmas in the Village on the Hill,” which will take place between December 15–19 in the authentic setting of the Village Museum in Baia Mare.

The event partners, who will once again join the initiative as hosts, are: the Prefect’s Institution – Maramureș County, the Maramureș County School Inspectorate, the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Maramureș and Sătmar, the “Dr. Nicolae Rușdea” Pneumophthisiology Hospital Baia Mare, the Maramureș Tribunal, the Maramureș Bar Association, the “Gheorghe Pop de Băsești” Emergency Situations Inspectorate of Maramureș County, the “Pintea Viteazul” Maramureș County Gendarmerie Inspectorate, the National Folkloric Ensemble “Transilvania,” the Maramureș County Museum of Ethnography and Folk Art, the Maramureș County Center for the Promotion and Preservation of Traditional Culture “Liviu Borlan,” and the ASSOC Baia Mare Non-Governmental Professional Association for Social Assistance.

In a world where the pace accelerates year after year, we wish to return to the essence: to the pure carol, sung from the heart, at the doorstep of homes that still preserve the image of the old Maramureș village. This year as well, preschoolers, schoolchildren, and groups of carolers will be joyfully welcomed into symbolic households such as: the County Council President’s House, the Mayor’s House, the House of Traditions, the Teacher’s House, the Prefect’s House, the Priest’s House, the House of Justice, and the House of Humanity.

In the children’s voices, the warmth of Christmas will be felt once more, and on the village lanes will echo that simple and pure emotion that has endured for centuries in Maramureș homes.

Following this event, on Saturday, December 20, also at the Village Museum, the seventeenth edition of the event “Christmas in Maramureș” will take place — a true landmark of the winter holidays and a beloved event for the people of Maramureș, open to the general public and to all those who wish to experience the authentic spirit of the winter celebrations.
